City of Waukee issued the following announcement on Feb. 7.
During the Waukee Fire Department’s annual dinner, Elle Worrell was named the 2019 Firefighter of the Year. David Oldham received the 2019 Character Award. Deputy Fire Chief Tomme Tysdal presented the awards.
Elle Worrell received the Firefighter of the Year honor for her positive attitude, dedication, loyalty and constant thirst for knowledge. While Elle is fairly new to the department, she is always looking to improve herself and mentor newer employees.
David Oldham received the department’s Character Award for always taking the time to do what is right for the organization and its people. He is always communicating with everyone from recruits to the Chief and looking for ways to help out and improve the department.
Both Worrell and Oldham started their careers with the Waukee Fire Department in 2018. Congratulations to these top-notch first responders!
Congratulations are also in order for a few firefighter/paramedics who hit service milestones: Kurt Steinke - 25 years, Adam Hilgenberg - 15 years (not pictured) and Nate Snelson who is retiring after 17 years. Thanks for your service.
