Kenneth Dwaine Perin, 85, of Humboldt, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at The Village of Legacy Point, Waukee, Iowa, with his children by his side.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held Friday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am in Hope’s chapel before the service. Lunch and fellowship will follow in The Bridge after the service.
Ken’s survivors include daughters Becky (Dean) Adair of Garfield, Arkansas; Barb (Dean) Crist of Ankeny, Iowa; and son K.C. (Ruth) Perin of Orlando, Florida. Grandchildren: Nicky (Dave), Travis (Brody), Amy (Bart), Erin (Matt), Mike (Kristin), Megan (Jay) and Melissa (Josh). 17 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Keaton, Emma, Jackson, Cooper, Talley, Cael, Payton, Aly, Nate, Owen, Camyrn, McKenzie, Kaylie, Kyler, Maddie and Kinsley.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife Vivian of 57 years, his parents and siblings, Al, Ron, Mary and Dave. Ken was born on March 31, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa; son of Arthur and Grace Perin. After graduating high school, he entered the Air Force in April of 1952, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. On December 6, 1953, Ken and Vivian began their married life together while in Alaska. After his military service, Ken and Vivian relocated to Humboldt, Iowa, in 1956. Humboldt is where they raised their family. Ken owned an Amoco service station and Vivian worked at Meese elementary school.
Ken’s family was his pride and joy. He was very active in the community, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and Kiwanis. Hobbies included woodworking, wood carving, fishing and camping. In retirement, Ken and Vivian traveled. In the course of their travels, they visited all 50 U.S. states and many countries abroad. Their winters were spent in warmer climates of Texas and Florida.
Ken’s family requests memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
